Commitment

I am reading the book of Acts… it is intimidating, inspiring and exciting all in the same chapter…

Acts 19 – Paul is ‘hurrying’ to get to Jerusalem to celebrate Pentecost… He meets the elders of the church of Ephesus at Miletus… while speaking to them he says ‘now I go bound in the Spirit to Jerusalem… not knowing what will happen there, except that the Spirit testifies in every city that chains and afflictions await me’

Acts 20.4 – the Spirit speaks through disciples that he should not go up to Jerusalem…

v10] – a prophet named Agabus took Paul’s belt, bound his own hands and feet and said, ‘thus says the Spirit, so shall the Jews bind the man who owns this belt…’

The disciples plead with Paul not to go to Jerusalem… ‘don’t break my heart with tears… I am ready to bound and even to die for the name of the Lord Jesus…’      ‘The will of the Lord be done’…

When faced with adversity, conflict and the prospect of imprisonment… do we turn aside, run, hide or do we confront?  The will of the Lord is the determining factor… does the Spirit warn us in order for us to avoid controversy or to prepare and strengthen us to endure?

When the enemy tries to intimidate you, when the odds are against you, when everyone warns you… in your heart you know when it is time to confront the adversary.

Faith is a struggle… adversity is inevitable… fight the good fight, lay hold on eternal life…
