Memorials

Memorials

I love to read history, to visit museums, visit historic places… in short to understand what happened and where it occurred.  This weekend we remember the men and women who sacrificed their lives in defense of freedom.  I am grateful to them and their families.

We need to remember and we need reminders to remember!

Memorials are reminders to us that someone sacrificed that we could enjoy the blessings of liberty… In our nation’s capitol, in state capitols, in cities and towns of all sizes we have chosen to memorialize our dead… we put up monuments, erects statues, engrave names… to remember!

You are a part of the long line of history… some came before, others will come after… leave a memory to be cherished. Make a sacrifice – love the unloveable, help the helpless, defend the weak… do something for someone else.

It is not the selfish, narcissist that is honored by a memorial… it is the one who chose to give rather than receive, who decided that the good of many outweighed my own needs…

Take a moment and contemplate the sacrifices that others made that enabled you to live in a free land, to dream of a better future, to enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
